You are right about lager and cider known as a snake bite. I served bloody thousands of them at the LIMIT where I worked behind the bar. Around 1980.
Later on in my life career I worked as a lecturer and took some students on a sports holiday to Spain. A couple of times we went in bar (Sir needed a bloody drink actually) and I was always asked for the Spanish for blackcurrant. turns out they drank it with lager. Around 1990.
