What Constitutes A Jumper?
Yorkshire 296 all out
v Northamptonshire 26 for 2
County Championship Division 1
Close on Day One
Thursday 21 April 2022
Played at Northampton
It had looked a bit grim & depressing for PatelShire earlier in the day after deciding to bat first. Lyth went first with just three runs on the tins. Hill went on fifteen, caught behind off Berg, who gave him a bit of a bye-bye send off. Bit early in the season/game/day for that mate. And, patchwork quilt selection Karunaratne went in the 11th over at just 22 for 3. He'd already survived an hugeenormous shout for caught behind off just his second ball in Yorkshire colours.
While I'm on that subject. These new Yorkshire jumpers. Is that what you can legit call another layer of polyester that fits over an existing layer of polyester? Is that de jumper facto? Anyway, these new Yorkshire jumpers don't actually have any fucking colours on them.
So, strictly, Karunaratne survived an enormoushuge shout off just his second ball in Yorkshire plains. Gareth Berg had all of those first three.
But then Malan & Brook put YCCC back in the game. Taking it to 153 before Malan was out. A 61 ball half century in his 64. Berg again. Maybe Malan felt it had pitched outside leg? Simon Kerrigan took some humpty in that bit. Ending the innings at a wicketless 7 an over off 4.
Duke, dragged on for 22 at 203 for 5.
Bess gone at 204 for 6.
Brook, dragged on for 84 (off 112) at 206 for 7.
Those dragged ons swinging the game around a bit. Jordan Thompson & Matthew Revis wagged it a lot. Thompson 51 off 70. Revis not out on 31.
Patterson completed the dragging on hat trick - out to Kelly on his first ball.
Berg got his fifth to send the shoulder dislocating swinging of Rauf back for his bowling boots to end it all at 296.
Did I mention the pull of the pub? That was to the frankly excellent…
St Giles Ale House

A single room, straight up MicroPub. The guy serving, presumably the owner/landlord, also explained that he owned Framework Brewery in Leicester. Those beers featured heavily on the clips. There were six handles in all. Two of them had Abbeydale Voyager & Kelham Island Riders On The Storm on!! I swerved those.
Framework Brewery, St Giles, Citra Pale Ale on Cask at 3.8%
Framework Brewery, Keep The Faith, Chinook, Centennial, Columbus, Comet West Coast style IPA on Cask at 5.5%
Framework Brewery, Five Leaves, English Bitter on Cask at 4%
