No Beer Don't Read
Many of you will be involved in active debates about it. The rest of you will not be surprised to learn there are active debates about it. Games? Grounds? What can you Tick?
I've said before. The absolutely pointless arguments about what you can & can't tick are more enjoyable than the going to the game itself.
I'm from the laissez-faire wing of the Carrier Bag Firm. Make your own rules. If you want to tick it, tick it. Essentially, most tickers will have a level they're worried about going below. And that level will not always be easy to describe in terms of the football pyramid or the National League Step System.
Consider. The Sheffield United Community Foundation teams. The kit is red & white. The badge is crossed swords and a white rose. The FA website says “Sheffield United”. Some of the SUFC Community games are played at pukka Step 5 Handsworth FC. The CBF go. Fuck sake. We're going to tick those.
One Bagger recently went to a Sheffield United Community College U19 game at Westfield in Sheffield. The game had been plugged on the Sheffield United Community Foundation socials. The game was in The Sheffield & Hallamshire CFA College Flexi League, South Division. That's on the FA website. “Derby County” and “Rotherham United” also have teams in that division. But, the game our mate saw was v King Edwards School 1st XI. Opinion. That's way out there for tickability. We're playing a school FFS. But, he wanted to tick it. And I'll support his right to do that until my own last tick.
There's a lot of shit talked about “park pitches” and “3g cages”. One Bagger has previously drawn the line at goalposts with wheels. I bet there were some fuckers not willing to tick Bramall Lane when it was first built, because “it had the wrong sort of retaining wall”.
There are deffo two low level ticking things that float my boat. A game at an unusual, iconic ground. No matter what the level of the teams lined up. I won't give the game away. Because I've got one of those on my horizon. But, you know the sort of thing. Inside a Castle. Half way up a mountain. A train line running inside the corner flag. Backing onto a beach. All that sort of shit.
And. An iconic league.
So. Here we are. At Market Road Pitch Two in London N7. A fucking 3g cage. And my legit 464th ground tick. For this London Underground Football League, Division Two clash between the Victoria Line and the Waterloo & City Line. Iconic me up bruv.
No need for too many deets. The absolute requirement to work for the narrow particular branch in the team name has been quashed. But, you have to work on “the system” somewhere. And there is talk of Staff Passes, and their photos, being inspected in the dressing rooms, and on the touchlines.
British Transport Police and “Buses” field teams. This. Is. Football.
I counted nine. But other Twitterers announced the attendance as ten. Waterloo & City missed a Pen on 16. Blazed miles over. Vic's Tanvir scored a great header from a corner on 30. W&C equalised on 55 with a deflection. Tanvir scored his and Vic's second on 63 with a great breakaway and calm finish while W&C were down to ten with a fella in the Bin of Sin. Great end to end stuff. We've ticked that. And. We. Move.
