SUFC 2022/23 Game #7
The Carrier Bag Firm dangerously, but prophetically, decided to nix a pre match drink in favour of a late night celebratory drink.
And, you can analyse that game all you like. Get the stats out. I've got two degrees in Applied Statistics. Don't matter. Those are the games to be at. If you were at that one. Or watching it on a televisual device. And you didn't enjoy it. You've got the wrong glasses on.
Sunderland were very good, weren't they? Started at a great pace. But, skilful with it. Not just harem scarem by any means. There were prolonged (early) periods where United just couldn't get in the game. But, the sending off changed everything.
My initial reaction was that the Red Card was harsh. Not in terms of the letter of the law of course. But, in terms of natural football justice, a bit harsh. Maybe the BlackCats weren't properly organised for the resulting corner. In real time, I thought Norwood had put it right under the bar and Ahmedhodžić was basically stood on the line when he headed it. On review, it's a few yards out. But, still, you don't expect to concede from a corner which the keeper or zone man might deal with.
Ahmedhodžić was immense. A key assist for the second as he runs on, past that oh so good dummy shimmy from Sander. And, from the right side, crosses to the near post. Where the left wingback (Lowe) knocks it in. My fucking left back that. Don't care who it is, that's my fucking left back.
Different day, could have been Rhys N-D. At one point, my Bramall Lane upper seat nexterer said;
"You like him don't you, Phil?"
After I'd screamed "Go On Rhys" for the manyeth time.
"Yes, I fucking do"
That kid Ellis Simms was a right handful up top. But, when he popped up in Rhys's bit, he was all over him. Rhys has got that - I'm a centre back, I'm going to wrestle you, but I ain't giving a free kick away - vibe locked. He's physically strong. Puts his body in the right place. And he's not bad marauding forward. Although he (too) often has to check his run.
I've singled Anel out for G & A. I've singled Rhys out for WWE. Wes made some great saves. We had shots from outside the box. The lot of them were all single outable. But, old fashioned sloppiness still bubbling. Salute Sunderland, came to play & give it a go. Glad to hear the whistle.

Apologies to Norwood for doubting him v millwall. A stellar performance and nearly a goal.
A great game and sorry that work made me miss it 😢
Posh curtains in that boozer Phil- doesn’t look the traditional London Road affair?
