I had planned a heroic Saturday Noon/3pm double with a game at Beckenham Town. Unfortunately, I got badly let down by the 162 Bus to Beckenham Junction. I didn't fancy doing just a bit of a game. So I bailed out.
It was very busy at Cray. Not so much for the football. Mainly for the adjacent padel courts on this multifunctional site!!!
The bars all sported Wands Lager (Wands as in Wanderers) at 4%. I didn't fancy a bevvy anyway. But, “interestingly” there were a fair few empty Carling Kegs scattered around. Yet … no Carling on sale.
Cray Wanderers finished seventh in the Step 3 Isthmian League Premier Division last season. Visitors Tonbridge Angels were fourteenth in Step 2 National League South.

Sheffield United Shirecliffe Academy Graduate, Henry Molyneux in goal for the Wanderers. Although Tonbridge had a header narrowly wide early on, Wanderers scored on just 5. A neat clean header from a right wing corner. They were playing some lovely, expansive football at this stage. But, by about 20, that intensity had turned all a bit hot potato, harem scarem.
Neither team really had any control nor composure, but Cray shaded that first half.
The Angels got it together a bit more in the second half. Some early half chances. A couple of shots just wide. Then, one great against the run of play chance for Wanderers. With the Angels goalie making a great save to keep it to 1-0.
Lots of effort from both sides, but that's how it finished.
Fucking 162 Bus. Right bollocksed me up did that…
